The seals will provide the best protection when installed on a flat smooth surface, but they will also work if the surface is not completely smooth (within reason). 

Many customers contact us about cobble stones or brick, if you have brick or stone at your entrance we recommend to fill these gaps between the brick to make them come flush, that way the seal can provide a better connection with no seepage.
